Opinion Piece

During the pandemic, lots of theatres closed and when they reopened, they had to recoup their losses to survive.

But with the cost of living, is the cost of tickets too high?

People have less disposable income than they did and this might mean less shows on average people will attend. Should theatre’s reduce prices to assist?

Theatre’s will have increased costs, such as heating, inflation and staff wages. Therefore there is a reason for their prices.

However there will come a pinch point whereby there are not enough audience members seeing a show to make it viable.

It’s a question of economics, maximizing revenue without it stopping people coming.

Could therefore the price of theatre extra’s be key, such as refreshments, food be the key?
