Theatre Peckham is returning for a third celebratory year with Peckham Fringe this summer!
Hosting over 20 phenomenal and vibrant productions with creatives from the local London
community, this is the first time that the festival has expanded beyond the Theatre Peckham
building, truly embracing the local community and surrounding spaces.
This year, Theatre Peckham’s Ambassadors have worked closely with Artistic Director Suzann
McLean to programme the festival. Curating an outstanding season of emerging writers, moving
new musicals, clowning, spoken word and more, this year’s festival strives to feel truly
representative and encompassing of the voices and stories of the community.
Ambassador Eve Atkinson comments, It has been immensely satisfying to co-curate this year’s
Peckham Fringe with the rest of the Theatre Peckham Ambassadors. As a collective we pitched
and fought for these stories to be told, and we wanted to bring the best content, variety and
enjoyment for audiences to get their hands on, right on their doorstep. I’m particularly excited
for audiences to witness the jokes, lyricism and depth of Mandem, get immersed in the poetic
experience of Eye for a Word, and soak in the vibes, honesty and humour of Love Something. We
hope the community of Peckham love it!
Perfomer from Time Fly’s Tiffany Brown comments, Peckham Fringe really caters to a diverse
background and words can’t describe how happy I am to be not only a part of the festival but the
opening act! In our piece Time Fly’s we are going to take you on a South London love story and
we can’t wait for you guys to see it!
The team of Ambassadors are made up of local artists, creatives and members of the Peckham
community, and this year’s programme will showcase a high number of women writers, global
majority voices and neurodiverse stories.
Opening the festival will be Duayne Boa and Khali Best in their nostalgic nineties production,
Time Fly’s that follows the charming story of two best friends as they go back in time and
reminisce about the days of Reebok classics, one-day bus passes and mobile phone pamphlets,
while growing up in South East London together. Also on Thursday 2nd May will be ‘Variety D’
with her hilarious new work in progress Misunderstood in the Hood.
Pioneering powerful female voices, Run Black Girl Run tells the inspirational story of Enitan, a
bright and outspoken Nigerian girl who attends a P.E. lesson that changes her life. Led by
Harmony Daniel, this joyous drama will consider the concept of why we move, and what moves
us.
Set in the heart of London, Mandem will tell the story of three best friends, Felix, Jermaine and
Idris as they transition from boyhood to men, and slowly begin to face the harsh realities of
adulthood. As board game enthusiasts, audiences will join them on this exciting battle of selfexploration as they discover it’s not just the world they are up against, but themselves.
Blending the boundaries of traditional children’s storytelling, Storytropolis: Into the Story-Verse
will transport children’s imaginations as they are taken on a creative journey of fun and
freedom, unlocking where all stories originate from and the power of crafting their own stories
on stage.
Navigating the complexities of modern-day dating, Rain in the Serenade is an immersive new
musical about love and self-discovery. With captivating performances and an enchanting
original score, this interactive new musical showcases an unforgettable experience of personal
growth.
Following a man in search of his manhood, saddle up for a wild western cowboy romp with
BANGTAIL. Audiences will join Lil Wenker on this perilous journey from desert to desk, as they
root’ n’ toot to the highest mountain of the booziest saloon, in this clowning extravaganza!
Set in a time where people’s ability to “see beauty” has been stripped away, VEYIL is a modern
myth that explores societal beauty standards and the concept of obsession. Through pop
culture, well-known myths, religion and folklore, writer and performer Adeola Yemitan (The
Caucasian Chalk Circle, Rose Theatre) will dazzle in this revolutionary one-woman show.
Celebrated for its triumphant sold-out run at A Pinch of Vault earlier this year, Last Goal Wins is
a gripping production that follows five men who are trying out for the Nigerian National football
team. As winners of VAULT Festivals Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion Award, this gripping
production asks the question, why do African players not represent their native country in
sports?
