HOT OFF MY ROUND! IT’S TIME TO MEET… THE GIRLZ!
Darlings, brace yourselves. I was halfway through delivering a press kit to an usher when a bassline hit me like a double espresso from Pret. Girlz—yes, with a zed and a whole lot of zing—have landed at the Edinburgh Fringe green room, and let me tell you, this is not your average “girl group goes pop” story. It’s sass, heartbreak, sparkle, sabotage and scandal—all in one high-octane musical parcel.
Seven Stories. One Stage. No Auto-Tune.
We’ve got a fresh new girl band with more charisma than a West End curtain call, a music mogul so ruthless he makes Simon Cowell look like a life coach, and a singer-songwriter who’s wondering where his big break went while eating cereal in yesterday’s hoodie. Girlz follows seven fabulous (and fabulously flawed) characters over one whirlwind year of fame, flops and finding themselves.
Expect Choreography, Chaos and a Chorus Line of Truth Bombs
This show doesn’t just hit the high notes, it belts them while tackling the ugly side of the spotlight. Think: media trolling, mental health, creepy execs, and everything the tabloids pretend doesn’t happen. But don’t worry, this isn’t a sob fest—it’s got comedy, bangers, dance routines that made me clutch my satchel tighter, and moments of friendship that’ll melt your glitter-coated heart.
A British Musical With Bite
This isn’t some manufactured bubblegum export. Girlz is homegrown, hot-blooded, and honest. It gives the finger to the fake and sings about what really matters—truth, trust, and surviving a toxic industry with your eyeliner intact. If you’ve ever dreamt of being famous and then thought, “Actually… maybe not,” this one’s for you.
Grace’s Final Dispatch
If you only see one musical about fame, feminism and friendship this Fringe, Girlz should be it. It’s fast, it’s feisty, and it hits harder than a rejection email from The Voice.
So go on, babes—grab your ticket, slap on some lip gloss, and get ready to scream like you’re front row at Wembley. These Girlz came to play.
With glitter, gossip, and girl power,
Grace Hatchell
