The Man Behind The Curtain

Hello – I’m Andrew, the one-man band behind Theatre Village. I’ve seen well over 400 shows, from Youth Theatre gems to big West End blockbusters. I’ve trod the boards myself in my Youth Theatre and amateur dramatics days, so I know first-hand the graft, nerves, and magic that go into a performance.

This site is my labour of love. I fund it entirely myself – no ads, no corporate sponsors – which means my theatre trips are usually in the North East (where I’m based), with the occasional jaunt to London or other parts of the UK when I can swing it. Hotel prices do make me wince, so I can’t be everywhere at once!

I’m here for one reason: to share honest, heartfelt reviews that capture the spirit of each production. Whether it’s an intimate black-box play or a glittering main-stage spectacular, I give the same attention, care, and enthusiasm. If your show’s brilliant, I’ll say so. If it’s got room for improvement, I’ll say that too – because I believe transparency helps theatre grow.

I have a soft spot for up-and-coming talent, grassroots companies, and local theatre scenes. My background means I appreciate the dedication behind the lights, lines, and late-night rehearsals, and I want to see the arts flourish – especially outside the usual London bubble.

While my main focus is live theatre, I sometimes branch out into dance, comedy, and even the odd circus act, just to keep things fresh for readers. If you’re a director, actor, or work backstage, I’d love to connect – your insights help me bring richer context to my reviews.

If you’d like me to review your production, drop me a line via the contact form. I can’t promise to cover everything, but I can promise passion, honesty, and the perspective of someone who genuinely loves this art form.

Above all, remember: it’s just me here in Theatre Village – no team, no frills, just one dedicated theatre lover with a pen, a notebook, and a train ticket (when the budget allows).
