At Theatre Village, we believe great theatre doesn’t begin when someone wins an Olivier Award.
It begins in church halls, village halls, school stages, community theatres, youth groups, rehearsal rooms, arts centres and anywhere a group of people decide they’re going to put on a show because they love doing it.
That’s why we’re proud to support amateur theatre, community theatre, drama schools, youth theatre groups, student productions, local theatre companies and performing arts organisations across the UK.
Professional theatre deserves the spotlight, absolutely.
But so does the local musical society that’s spent six months rehearsing after work.
So does the youth theatre putting on its first production.
So does the drama school showcasing the next generation of performers.
So does the village panto that somehow always manages to find someone willing to dress as a pantomime cow.
Theatre belongs to everyone.

Some of my happiest nights at the theatre have involved slightly wobbly scenery, a missing prop, someone accidentally saying the wrong line and an audience cheering like they’d just seen the National Theatre. That’s because theatre isn’t measured by the size of the budget — it’s measured by the size of the heart behind it. And trust me, grassroots theatre has plenty of that.
