Hello my lovely Fringe folk,
If you’re reading this while juggling rehearsal schedules, flyering plans, ticket links, accommodation stress, and the small matter of keeping yourself upright — I see you. And I mean that properly.
We all know times are tough. Tougher than they used to be. Bringing a show to the Edinburgh Fringe now takes nerve, graft, optimism, and usually a frightening amount of personal faith (and personal funds). And in a festival where thousands of shows are all shouting at once, every scrap of publicity can genuinely make a difference.
So, just like we did last year, Theatre Village will once again be running a Fringe competition designed to give one show something incredibly simple… and incredibly powerful: visibility.
The winning show will be featured on the front page of Theatre Village from 1st June right through to the end of August. A full three months.
That means that every visitor to the site — theatre producers, agents, programmers, fellow artists, and press — will see your show front and centre throughout the build-up, the Fringe itself, and the crucial post-Fringe window when journeys really begin.
Last year’s winner was Lizzy Sunshine, and watching how much that moment meant to them — the pride, the excitement, the feeling of being properly noticed — is exactly why we’re doing this again.
And there’s more. As long as dates and times line up, I’ll also come and see the winning show during the Fringe and give it a proper Theatre Village review. No paywalls. No fees. Just attention, care, and a fair-eyed look at the work you’ve poured yourself into.
Before anyone panics — the details of how to enter the competition will be shared later, in April. There’s no rush just yet. This post is simply me popping my head round the stage door to say: help is coming, and we’re rooting for you.
The Fringe can feel overwhelming. But sometimes all it takes is one person stopping, watching, and saying, “This deserves to be seen.”
More soon,
Grace
(And yes — I’m already polishing the satchel.)
