Midnight Returns to London Following Sold-Out Workshop Presentation
Following a sold-out initial workshop, Midnight, the original new musical by Todrick Hall, returns to London next month for a second development presentation. The production opens at Sadler’s Wells East for a strictly limited run, offering audiences a rare chance to experience the evolution of a new musical in real time.
Set in the American South during the nineteenth century, Midnight is a sweeping, sung-through musical exploring love, conflict, and the search for understanding. The story unfolds through bold, emotionally driven storytelling, inviting audiences to consider how identity, circumstance, and choice shape the roles we play in life.
Drawing inspiration from landmark modern musicals such as Hamilton, Les Misérables, and Rent, the score blends gospel, rhythm and blues, pop, and classic musical theatre to create a rich and contemporary soundscape.
This second development presentation builds on the success of last year’s sold-out workshop. Incorporating audience feedback and further creative refinement, the production marks an important next step in the show’s journey. Hall has continued to shape both the narrative and the score, offering audiences insight into the creative process behind an original musical as it grows toward its next stage.
Through soaring music and expansive storytelling, Midnight encourages audiences to see the world through another’s eyes. Its central message is both simple and resonant: while we cannot choose the roles we are given, we can choose how we play them.
Speaking about the return, Todrick Hall said:
“It’s an artist’s dream to have their show be appreciated, and I am beyond flattered that we have been asked back for an encore run of Midnight. In a theatre world full of revivals and jukebox musicals, I’m thrilled to be inviting audiences to experience an original musical in its developmental stage.”
Performances run from Friday 20 February to Sunday 8 March 2026, with shows at 2pm and 7.30pm, including weekend matinees.
The creative team is led by Todrick Hall as Music & Lyrics and Director/Choreographer, with Harry Blumenau CDG CSA as Casting Director and Laura Seaborn as Casting Associate. Further casting and creative announcements are expected.
With over nine million followers across multiple platforms, Todrick Hall is one of the most influential contemporary storytellers working today. His theatre credits include original Broadway casts of The Color Purple and Memphis, starring roles in Kinky Boots, Chicago, Waitress, and Shrek the Musical, as well as appearances in the West End. His wider creative work spans eighteen studio albums, international tours, Disney compositions, and award-winning collaborations across music, theatre, and film.
