I was fortunate enough to see A Giant On The Bridge today, its a show which uses acoustic songwriting, Scottish hip hop and original true-life storytelling, A Giant on the Bridge explores the complex journey of coming home from prison and was inspired by the voices of those affected by and working within Scotland’s system of imprisonment.

The scene was set up which portrayed a homely environment and despite being sat in the corner I had a good view of the performers and stage.

This show had an interwoven a story alongside music about an individual coming home from prison. Each character portrayed a different profession or family relation in relation to the story.

From the start to the end, this show was absolutely brilliant. The performances by all the performers was excellent and was a showcase of Scottish talent to its finest.

The music was original, funny and emotional at times. The acting was superb and the storyline kept the pace of the show going.

This production delves into the hidden heartbeat of a story all too familiar to many in Scotland – the uncertain future that awaits those returning home from prison. With a passionate and unwavering tone, the play navigates the complex themes of identity, family, community, restoration, and the ever-present specter of injustice.

The performance is a masterclass in storytelling, weaving together the threads of a narrative that is both intensely personal and universally resonant. The audience is drawn in, captivated by the raw emotion and the unflinching gaze upon the challenges faced by those seeking to rebuild their lives after incarceration.

“A Giant on the Bridge” is a testament to the power of art to illuminate the human condition, to give voice to the voiceless, and to inspire a deeper understanding of the societal issues that too often remain in the shadows. This is a production that demands to be seen, a clarion call for empathy, compassion, and hope.

This year, one performance stands out as a poignant and deeply moving exploration of the human experience – “A Giant on the Bridge and I would highly recommend you see this show whilst its on.
