Scotland Dance Theatre presented this double bill, its also the only show I attended where an interval was offered, with ice cream!
It was a sold out show on the night I went ( 1st night).
Initially I wasn’t enamoured with the first part of the Flock. Imagine birds, they fly, they sing, they have a chorus. The first part featured a lot of floor dance movements and dare I say it: Death? I wanted fluttery wings and freedom. But as the performance progressed, it transformed into something truly mesmerising. The dancers’ movements became more fluid and airborne, evoking the grace and freedom of birds in flight. Their bodies seemed to defy gravity, leaping and twirling with incredible precision and control. The second part, Sofia Nappi’s piece, was an absolute revelation. It exploded onto the stage with raw energy and passion, leaving the audience breathless. The choreography was a perfect blend of contemporary and classical techniques, showcasing the dancers’ versatility and strength. What struck me most was the sheer physicality of both performances. The music was joyful during the Cloud and I loved every moment. I just wished there was more of the Cloud as I found it captivating.
The dancers pushed their bodies to the limit, executing complex lifts and acrobatic feats that had the audience gasping in awe. The synchronicity between the performers was impeccable, creating stunning visual patterns that constantly evolved throughout the show. The music choices were inspired, perfectly complementing the mood and intensity of each piece. The lighting design deserve a mention too, enhancing the emotional impact of the performances and creating an otherworldly atmosphere on stage.
It is worth seeing this production ( even for the ice cream) it showcases Scotland’s brilliant talent for dance.
