Ghosted! A New Musical
For fans of Rocky Horror, Beetlejuice, and Ghosts, Ghosted! A New Musical the show’s premise was that it delivers a hauntingly hilarious ride with a big heart. Henry, unable to cope with the death of his best friend Mia, joins a paranormal support group hoping to reconnect with her spirit — or even bring her back. But instead, he finds himself haunted by a mischievous, poetry-loving ghost. Alongside Lydia, an eager amateur exorcist, this unlikely quartet embark on a journey through grief, the supernatural, and some much-needed musical therapy (because let’s face it, real therapy doesn’t come cheap). It’s a show that asks: do we ever truly leave the places, and people, we call home?
I was fortunate to be given access to the filmed version of the production direct from Edinburgh Fringe. Ghosted! A New Musical was already high on my Fringe wish list, but due to scheduling clashes I couldn’t catch it live. Watching the recording, I can confirm my instincts were right — this was always destined to be a standout.
From the very first scene, the cast captured my attention. Performances were grounded, charismatic, and believable, with each actor fully inhabiting their role and creating characters you genuinely rooted for.
The script sparkled with wit and originality, balancing comedy with heartfelt emotion. The score was equally impressive — songs were cleverly woven into the story and several stayed with me long after. Around the 40-minute mark, the dialogue felt a little extended, and a musical number here might have lifted the momentum. That said, the production quickly found its rhythm again and swept me straight back into its world.
What stood out most was how seamlessly the show flowed. Humour and heart were perfectly interlaced with moments of surreal spookiness, making for a richly entertaining watch. It’s rare for an original musical to feel this polished so early in its life — the writing was sharp, the acting superb, and the vocals strong across the board.
Back in July, Theatre Village tipped Ghosted! A New Musical as a “must-see” of the Fringe before it had even debuted. Having now seen it, we stand firmly by those words. This production is gripping, imaginative, and an absolute joy to watch.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Five stars well deserved. And while Edinburgh Fringe 2025 may be over, the spirit of Ghosted! A New Musical is very much alive.
