Grace’s Satchel Stop: Birmingham Rep throws open the doors for a Dreamy Casting Call
Well, well, West Midlands — get your headshots polished and your best party shoes at the ready, because The Rep is throwing the gates wide open for local talent to shine. Fresh off revealing their shiny new season, Birmingham Rep have just announced an open casting call for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, landing next April as part of Joe Murphy’s inaugural season.
And this isn’t your usual run-of-the-mill Bard — we’re talking neon rave in an enchanted forest vibes. Think glowsticks, beats, and more love tangles than an episode of Love Island. One minute you’re being forced to marry the wrong person, the next you’re dodging potions and running wild under strobe lights. Magic meets mayhem.
Here’s the best bit: you don’t need an agent or a stack of West End credits to throw your hat in the ring. If you’re Birmingham or West Midlands-based, versatile, and ready for bold, contemporary storytelling, this is your chance.
Apply by 12 noon on Friday 10 October via The Rep’s website.
Auditions will be held at The Rep Thursday 16 – Saturday 18 October.
In the words of Artistic Director Joe Murphy and Deputy Artistic Director Madeleine Kludje, this production is all about celebrating local voices: “The Rep has always been committed to championing the incredible talent right here in our city… By opening up the audition process, we’re creating space for local actors and creatives to shine on our stage and be part of something truly magical.”
So if you’ve ever dreamed of getting lost in Shakespeare’s forest — only this time with a bassline — now’s your moment. Tickets for A Midsummer Night’s Dream (25 April – 24 May 2026) are on sale now via The Rep’s website or by calling the Box Office on 0121 236 4455.
See you in the rave-glow woods, my loves.
— Grace
