Ooh readers, I’ve just had to wrestle this one out me satchel because it’s a whopper! Watford Palace Theatre is flinging open its doors this September with a brand-new season that’s got more variety than a bakery counter. Not only are they serving up theatre, comedy, music, dance and cabaret galore, but they’re also unveiling five shiny new creative spaces – so if you’re looking for a reason to pop back into the Palace, September’s the month.
Let’s talk highlights, because my satchel is positively bursting:
Season Kick-Offs & Festivals
- The Illegal Eagles (4 Sept) launch things with harmonies so smooth they’ll ruffle even the Big Bad Wolf’s feathers.
- South Asian Comedy Festival (12–14 Sept) brings Harpz Kaur, Sindu Vee, Paul Sinha and Anuvab Pal – guaranteed to split your sides.
- Women in Comedy Festival (15–18 Oct) has everything from Bring Your Own Babies chuckles to Ania Magliano, Sophie Duker and Chloe Petts. Who run the world? Funny women.
Spooky & Sparkly Theatre
- The Void (3–4 Oct) – a sci-fi horror from Thunder Road that’ll make you sleep with the lights on.
- Surinderella (22–26 Oct) – Rifco Theatre give Cinderella a Bollywood remix. Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Bhangra, anyone?
Dance, Music & Cabaret
- Art of Andalucía (11 Sept) – flamenco fire and passion.
- Yeh Dosti: 50 Years of Sholay (27 Sept) – Bollywood at its most iconic.
- Black Ballet (8 Oct) – a stunning double bill.
- Dragged to the Musicals (9 Oct) – Divina De Campo and her kweens strut into town.
- Northern Live (1 Nov) – Northern Soul with a full band.
- Crazy for You (4–8 Nov) – Gershwin classics galore.
- Coldplay: Sky Full of Stars (14 Nov) – a tribute show that’s bound to make you fix your glowsticks.
An Evening With…
- Katie Price & Kerry Katona (19 Sept) – expect stories, sass and zero filter.
- Annabel Croft (12 Nov) – tennis to glitterball tales.
- Brian Cox: Work in Progress (17–19 Dec) – Professor of the cosmos gives us the stars before panto season.
For Families
- WiFi Wars (7 Sept) – interactive quiz chaos.
- Baby Broadway (26 Sept) – singalongs and bubbles for the tiny theatregoers.
- The Dinosaur that Pooped (28 Oct) – yes, you read that right. Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter’s dino disaster musical arrives!
- Natural History Museum Live (29 Oct) – dinosaurs live on stage. Jurassic larks guaranteed.
Panto Time
- Jack and the Beanstalk (29 Nov–4 Jan) – Stephen Fry booms as the Giant, and there’ll be more bad jokes than my Uncle Kev at Christmas dinner. Young Ensemble auditions (7–9 Sept) are open too – so if you’re 11–17, grab your glitter and give it a go.
CEO Steve Marmion sums it up: “Back to school with a bang!” And honestly, I couldn’t agree more. If you’ve not popped into the Palace lately, go have a nosy – it’s got a glow-up, it’s got gigs, it’s got gags, and come Christmas it’s got Fry in the sky. Fee-fi-fo-FUN indeed.
Grace x
