Well now, what’s this rattling into my satchel? None other than Birmingham Rep’s brand-new Artistic Director, Joe Murphy, is stepping out with his very first season announcement this month. But before he stamps it official, he’s inviting Brum’s theatre folk and neighbours to have their say in a series of Town Hall Talks.
Think of it as a proper natter in the village hall – only swap the custard creams for BSL interpreters and free tickets! Joe’s throwing the doors open wide to freelance creatives, companies, and the wider community, because (in his own words) this shiny Rep building isn’t just for swanning about – it’s here to be useful.
Joe says:
“I’m really excited to meet the communities of Birmingham and hear their thoughts and ideas about what they want The Rep to be. This building is here to be useful and offer opportunities to the people of Birmingham, and I want The Rep to celebrate the diverse voices of this city.”
So if you’ve ever had an idea, a grumble, or a spark of brilliance about what The Rep should be up to – now’s your chance to drop it straight in Joe’s ear.
Here’s the postie’s rundown of dates:
- Wed 10 Sept – freelance creatives of the region
- Wed 17 Sept – creative companies
- Wed 24 Sept – the communities of Birmingham & the West Midlands
- Wed 1 Oct – online town hall (for those who can’t trek in person)
All free, all BSL interpreted, and all need booking in advance.
Head to birmingham-rep.co.uk or ring the Box Office on 0121 236 4455 (Mon–Fri 12–6pm, Sat 12–6pm, or 4pm if there’s no evening show).
So there you go – Joe’s opening his bag before mine for once. Best pop along and have your say!
