Jack Lord-Scrooge
What’s in Grace’s Satchel?
Grace Hatchell brings tidings (and a few ghosts) from Cirencester!
Written by Charles Dickens
Adapted by Alan Pollock
Directed by Jessica Daniels
Playing Monday 1 December – Sunday 4 January at the Barn Theatre, Cirencester
Well, if there’s one thing guaranteed to make you feel festive (and slightly guilty about how many mince pies you’ve already eaten), it’s A Christmas Carol! The Barn Theatre in Cirencester has announced its creative team and cast for this year’s yuletide spectacular — and honestly, I think even Scrooge himself would crack a smile.
Starring Jack Lord as the tight-fisted Ebenezer himself, alongside a wonderfully talented company including Paul Kemble, Sam Lightfoot-Loftus, Louise Faulkner, Rachael Kendall Brown, and Claire Lee Shenfield, this production promises enough Christmas spirit to power an entire row of fairy lights.
Adapted by Alan Pollock and directed by Jessica Daniels, this retelling of Dickens’ classic will bring the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future dancing (or perhaps rattling their chains) across the stage — with a little help from Anna Kelsey’s magical set and costumes, Jodie Underwood’s lighting, Anna Pool’s music and Phoebe Hyder’s movement direction. It’s like Christmas pudding — everyone’s adding something delicious to the mix!
CEO Iwan Lewis and Executive Director Liam McMullan are thrilled to bring the story back to the Barn, promising all the heart, humour, and seasonal sparkle that make their Christmas shows so loved.
Now, I must confess — if there’s a vacancy going for “Ghost of Christmas Past,” I’d quite like to apply. Drifting through walls, making dramatic entrances, and delivering heartfelt life lessons? Sounds right up my street. (I already do the hauntingly late night editing sessions, so I’ve got the look down!)
So, if you fancy a night filled with redemption, candlelight, and a few well-timed “Bah, humbugs!”, then wrap up warm and head to Cirencester’s Barn Theatre this December. It’s a Christmas classic that’ll leave you glowing brighter than a ghost with unfinished business!
