Make an appointment at the People’s Theatre next month for STEEL MAGNOLIAS!
What’s in Grace’s Satchel?
📬 A sharp pair of scissors, a splash of hairspray, and a bucketload of heart…
Alright, my darlings – set your perms and schedule your gossip! Because next month at the People’s Theatre, the curlers are hot and the emotions are even hotter. Steel Magnolias is rolling into Truvy’s beauty salon, where six fabulous women snip through life’s tangles with sass, strength and a whole lotta Southern charm.
If you’ve ever bonded with a mate over a bad dye job, a broken heart or a bottle of Prosecco – this one’s for you. It’s funny. It’s fierce. It’ll have you howling with laughter one minute and passing the tissues the next.
And the best bit? All the hairstyling onstage is being guided by an actual hairdresser! So expect big hair, big emotions, and even bigger performances – with Emma Robson and Ashton Matthews bringing Truvy and Annelle to dazzling life.
Grab your gang, book a night, and settle in for a gorgeous celebration of friendship, resilience, and rollers.
💇♀️ “I don’t trust anybody that does their own hair. I don’t think it’s normal.”
And frankly, neither do I. Leave it to the pros – onstage and off.
In a small-town beauty salon in Louisiana, six women set the world to rights.
Each facing highs and lows in their work, marriages and parenthood, the women unite to gossip and unwind. And when faced with adversity, their deep strength and devotion to each other comes to the fore.
This celebration of female friendship will have audiences laughing at its whip-smart jokes, then crying at its devastating heartbreak.
“You have no idea how wonderful you are …”
“Of course we do …”
Based on the true story of writer Robert Harling’s sister Susan, STEEL MAGNOLIAS opened off-Broadway in 1987 and ran for three years. The much-loved 1989 film adaptation starred Dolly Parton and Julia Roberts, while the 2012 remake by Lifetime starring Queen Latifah became the channel’s third most watched original telecast of all time.
All of the play’s action takes place in Truvy’s beauty salon, so Emma Robson (who plays Truvy) and Ashton Matthews (who plays apprentice beautician Annelle) are being advised during rehearsals by hairdresser and wig-maker Keith Wigham on all things hairdressing and hairstyling!
This funny and poignant exploration of life, love, grief and sisterhood is not to be missed!
Tickets for STEEL MAGNOLIAS are available from the People’s Theatre Box Office on 0191 265 5020 (option 2) and online at www.peoplestheatre.co.uk
