📮 From Grace’s Satchel: “When I Grow Up” by Jeromaia Detto
Now then, lovelies – picture this: a room full of grown-ups giggling like school kids, donning silly hats and pretending to be fish. Yes, fish. Why? Because Jeromaia Detto said so – and frankly, I’d follow that man into a sandpit with a tutu on if he asked nicely.
When I Grow Up isn’t your average hour at the Fringe. It’s an all-in, belly-laughing, dress-up box of delightful chaos where the rules are simple: be daft, be bold, and remember what it felt like to dream without limits.
Jeromaia – Melbourne’s maestro of mischief – never quite figured out what he wanted to be when he grew up. But instead of settling for “accountant” like the rest of us (no offence to my mate Dave), he chose to turn the stage into a playground. And lucky us – we get to muck about in it.
You’ll scribble down what you once wanted to be (florist? astronaut? sentient wheelie bin?) and watch as Jeromaia breathes life into those long-lost dreams with wild costumes, a clown’s heart, and imagination bursting at the seams.
He’s trained across the world – Chicago, Norway, France – but don’t let the globetrotting fool you. At his core, Jeromaia is one of us: someone trying to make their mum proud, one giggle at a time. His shows are joyous, generous, and totally unguarded – like the best kind of group therapy, but with more silly walks.
🏆 With awards piling up from Sydney to Adelaide – including Best Comedy and Spirit of the Fringe – this show’s more decorated than a school nativity backdrop. And honestly? It’s got just as much glitter and heart.
📍Catch him at Underbelly George Square – Wee Coo, 30th July to 24th August (except the 11th and 18th), 4:20pm sharp – tea and biscuits optional, whimsy essential.

Go on – let your inner child have a whirl. I dare you.
Love,
