A Role To Die For At The Barn Theatre

CEO and Artistic Director Iwan Lewis, Executive Director and Producer Liam McMullan and the whole Barn Theatre team are delighted to announce the full cast and creative team for the Built By Barn world premiere of A Role To Die For, a brand-new play written by Jordan Waller and directed by Olivier Award winning Derek Bond. A Role To Die For will open on Thursday 30 January 2025 and run until Saturday 15 March 2025, with a national press performance on Wednesday 12 February 2025.

Deborah faces a significant challenge as she is tasked with casting the most renowned role in Hollywood, only to have her chosen actor withdraw at the last moment, just a day before the announcement. With filming set to commence immediately, she is under immense pressure to find a suitable replacement quickly. Meanwhile, her cousin is eager to sell out, her son advocates for modern inclusivity, and Deborah longs for the timeless allure of Sean Connery’s unmatched charisma. “A Role to Die For” is an insightful new play that humorously explores Hollywood’s clandestine casting processes.

The production features Janie Dee in the role of ‘Deborah’, known for performances in “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” with Lambert Productions and “Old Friends” at Gielgud Theatre; Philip Bretherton as ‘Malcolm’, recognised from works like “How The Other Half Loves” at Salisbury Playhouse; Harry Goodson-Bevan as ‘Quinn’, noted for his role in “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”; Kit Esuruoso playing ‘Theo’, acclaimed for appearances such as in “The Land Of Might Have Been”; and Peter McPherson portraying ‘Richard’, celebrated for his performance in “Sweet Charity”.

This Built By Barn Production, written by Jordan Waller, will be directed by the Olivier Award winning Derek Bond, with design from Cory Shipp, lighting designed by Adam Foley, sound design and composition from Amanda Priestley with sound programming from Chris Reid.

Director Derek Bond said, “It’s great to be working with such a tremendous cast on such a funny new play – it’s like Call My Agent meets Succession meets The Thick of It.
