Glass Slippers Off, Attitude On – Disenchanted! storms into Lichfield Garrick
By Grace Hatchell

Once upon a time, a bunch of princesses got tired of waiting around for true love’s kiss — so they started a band. Or, at least, something equally fabulous. Disenchanted! is marching into the Lichfield Garrick this April, and trust me, this is not your childhood fairytale. It’s witty, sharp, rebellious, and just the right amount of chaotic — and it’s finally giving our storybook heroines the microphone they deserve.

The show throws open the castle gates on Friday 24th April for its UK professional premiere, running until 2nd May, and it’s already shaping up to be one of the most riotous, refreshing nights out of 2026. Created by Dennis T. Giacino and Fiely Matias, Disenchanted! first burst onto the scene Off-Broadway and went on to tour five continents. Now, it’s traded Manhattan skylines for the Three Spires of Lichfield — and it’s bringing a whole lot of female fury, humour, and glitter with it.

We’ve got the plucky Snow White, the disillusioned Cinderella, the unpredictable Sleeping Beauty, the unapologetic Hua Mulan, the ethereal Princess (Who Kissed the Frog), the rebellious Little Mermaid, the authentic Pocahontas, the progressive Rapunzel, the witty Belle, and the misogyny-busting Princess Badroulbadour— all of whom have, frankly, had it up to here (inserts proverbial hand above the head)… now there’s a banquet we’d love to be part of!

It’s bold, brash, and beautifully self-aware. There’s big musical numbers, plenty of laugh-out-loud one-liners, and a deliciously subversive sense of humour that pokes fun at the stories we grew up with while celebrating how far we’ve come.

Gemma East, Chief Operating Officer at the Garrick, says:

“We’re thrilled to announce that the Lichfield Garrick Theatre will be home to the professional premiere of this well-loved musical. Our audiences love a great night out and something a bit different; so Disenchanted! is perfect. With a twist on familiar characters, riotous musical numbers, and laugh-out-loud one-liners, we’re incredibly excited to see how our audiences respond to this smash hit from across the pond.”

The production does come with a content warning — including strong language and mature themes — and carries an age rating of 14+. But let’s be honest, this one’s for everyone who’s ever rolled their eyes at a fairytale ending and thought, there’s got to be more to life than a tiara and a wedding.

So, if you fancy swapping your glass slipper for a cocktail and your bedtime story for a musical with bite, Disenchanted! is waiting at the Garrick. Happily Ever After? Nah. This time, the girls are rewriting the story — and it starts with a power chord.
