Leicester’s Curve theatre has announced the complete cast for the world premiere stage adaptation of the beloved picture book, “Pirates Love Underpants.” Directed by Curve’s Associate Director Cara Nolan, this family-friendly production will be performed at Leicester’s Curve from 2 December 2024 to 5 January 2025. The show is based on Claire Freedman and Ben Cort’s popular tale, first published in 2013 by Simon and Schuster UK Ltd, and adapted for the stage by Brad Fitt.
The cast includes James Blake Butler, Evie James, Stephanie Lysé, Yasmin Parekh, with Nat Speight as an on-stage swing. This lively production invites audiences to join a band of pirates on their quest for the legendary Pants of Gold. The adventure features encounters with crocodiles beneath Long-John Bridge and sharks in fancy underpants across Three Pants Ridge.
The show promises music, puppetry, and dazzling golden pants. From Saturday 7 December onwards, all performances will be Relaxed to accommodate more children and families. This initiative is supported by sponsors voco Leicester and David Wilson Homes.
After each performance, audience members can explore a magical Captain’s Cabin grotto where young attendees can discover a secret treasure chest containing the fabled pants of gold.
New songs are composed by Jude Taylor with set design by Debbie Minghan. Johnny Autin serves as Puppetry Director while Jonathan Payne handles lighting design. Dave Norton oversees sound design; Wes Fife manages video design; Edd Lindley supervises costumes; casting direction is led by Anji Carroll; Sam Paterson is Production Manager.
“Pirates Love Underpants” is recommended for children aged three years and above with an approximate running time of fifty minutes without an interval. Tickets are currently available for purchase through Curve’s website.
