I recently attended at Birmingham Rep Theatre a masterclass on an introduction to sound and lighting run by sound designer Clive Meldrum and Lighting Designer Richard G Jones.
There were around 30 participants and we were in the studio for the course. I particularly liked seeing backstage as often as a theatre reviewer we only see what the audience sees. I was surprised by the size of the backstage area of the Rep, passing by scenery making for their next production of Bhangra Nation.
The audience members were certainly lively asking a range of questions. Clive and Richard presented very well during the masterclass both subject master experts.

Of course being a theatre reviewer I thought reviewing this particular event seemed apt. I enjoyed the event overall, I learnt some new words and the structure of a theatre production. I enjoyed the anecdotal stories from both of the experts. The event was well intentioned and delivered well. I think maybe for the future questions should be submitted by the audience so the presenters can aim to answer these within the presentation rather than being disrupted in giving their presentation.
Time unfortunately ran out for me as I needed to get a train at its scheduled finishing time but the presentation was still ongoing
It was a nice venue, a good learning opportunity and also nice to meet fellow theatre enthusiasts. I hope to attend such events in the future.
