Katie has flown in especially from the USA to play at the Edinburgh Fringe, so if she can make this long trip, it was only right to pop in to see the show.

Katie Folger’s show at the Edinburgh Fringe is a dagger-tongued jump down a rabbit hole of sexual empowerment that’s equal parts racy and whimsical. This one-woman tour de force about sex and singledom in the situationship era takes you on a ride you definitely didn’t see coming. Folger, the Austin-based comedienne, is a master of the TMI. She holds nothing back as she regales the audience with tales of her exploits, from disasters to bedroom blunders. It’s a raunchy, no-holds-barred look at the realities of modern living that’ll make you cringe and cackle in equal measure. But beneath the shock value, there’s a real heart to the show.

Folger’s honesty and vulnerability are as refreshing as they are hilarious, and she manages to tackle serious issues around female sexuality and empowerment with a playful, irreverent touch. By the time the final curtain falls, you’ll feel like you’ve gone down the biggest, bumpiest rabbit hole imaginable. But hey, at least you’ll have had a bloody good laugh along the way.

The show’s pacing is as frenetic as a squirrel on espresso, with Folger bouncing from one outrageous anecdote to the next faster than you can say “swipe right”. Her rapid-fire delivery and impeccable timing keep the audience on their toes, never quite sure where the next punchline will land. Folger’s physicality adds another layer of hilarity to the performance. She contorts her body into positions that would make a yoga instructor wince, all in the name of recreating her most embarrassing moments for our entertainment. It’s like watching a one-woman Kama Sutra, if the Kama Sutra were written by a sleep-deprived millennial with a penchant for self-deprecation. The set design is minimalist, but Folger more than makes up for it with her larger-than-life presence. She commands the stage like a general leading troops into battle – if that battle were against societal expectations and prudish sensibilities.

By the end of the show, you’ll feel like you’ve been through an emotional rollercoaster designed by Willy Wonka. It’s a wild ride that leaves you dizzy, slightly uncomfortable, but ultimately exhilarated. Folger’s show is not for the faint of heart or the easily offended, but for those brave enough to dive in, it’s an unforgettable experience that’ll have you looking at your own love life in a whole new (and probably more forgiving) light. The audience certainly loved the show with applause and laughter throughout.
