Strap in, folks, because we’re about to take a wild ride ( well review) through the wacky world of “My Pretties” at the Edinburgh Fringe. This charming little play is a delightful exploration of the unlikely friendship between next-door neighbours. This show was the one of the first I booked to see when deciding to come to the Fringe. The description as well of the theatre company’s backstory appealed to me. ( Turnip Fish Theatre Company)
In case you didn’t know it focuses on 2 witches-Agatha and Cassandra and because its the 21st Century- a smoothie making business of course.
What struck me about the show was the unity between the actors, they rehearsed well and gelled together very as a cohesive unit Some shows can feel disjointed because there is no bond between the actors, however there was a definite click and each supported the other in the delivery of their lines. The Yorkshire twang was also appealing
The story was original and the jokes inputted throughout the story were humorous and made the audience laugh- lots, lots and lots! There was some audience interaction too but if I told you that, it would spoil the show, so if you want to know, go see!
The cast are very lively and energetic, the only quietest moments were scene changes.
This show will definitely be featured soon in my top 10 shows to see at Edinburgh fringe.
Aggie and Cass will have you in stitches from start to finish. If you’re in the mood for a bit of magic, a whole lot of laughs, and a heartwarming tale of friendship, then “My Pretties” is the show for you. Just be prepared to leave your preconceived notions about witches at the door – these ladies are rewriting the rulebook, one deliciously blended smoothie at a time. But wait, there’s more! As if smoothie-sipping witches weren’t enough to tickle your fancy, “My Pretties” throws in a dash of social commentary that’s sharper than Agatha’s pointed hat.
You’ll find yourself secretly wondering if your own neighbour might be hiding a cauldron in their garden shed or ordering it via Amazon.
So, grab your broomstick (or Uber, if you’re feeling less magical) and fly on over to the Fringe for this spellbinding spectacle. Just don’t blame us if you leave craving a kale and new smoothie – that’s the true magic of “My Pretties”!
This was a worthy night-sky 5 star rating!
