Now listen up, darlings – because this one’s got all the makings of a Fringe smash: tortured genius? ✅ Emotional ballads? ✅ West End royalty belting it out under the Edinburgh skies? ✅✅✅
Vagabond Skies – The Van Gogh Musical is the brand new sung-through spectacle inspired by the deeply moving letters between Vincent van Gogh and his beloved brother Theo. Written by Tony Norman with orchestration by Mark Edwards, and brought to life under the direction of Sarah Dormady, it’s set to paint the town tragic and terrific in equal measure.
And let’s talk about this cast, shall we?
Alex Bloomer (yes, The Lion King, West End) steps into the starry-eyed shoes of Vincent himself.
Richard Dawes (Stiletto) plays brother Theo – the OG ride-or-die.
Jordan Frazier (Angelica in Hamilton, no less) brings fire as Agostina.
Francesca Leyland (Les Mis, West End and O2 blowout) plays Johanna van Gogh-Bonger – a name, a presence, a moment.
Also joining the palette: Patrick Jennings (Kinky Boots, Matilda), Maren Ovida (Miss Honey, Norway’s Matilda), and Anna Unwin (I Should Be So Lucky, Aspects of Love) as Rachel.
The ensemble? A lively bunch of rising stars and West End warriors including Max Cadman, Sacha Koplewsky (making his pro debut – give him a cheer!), Jake White, and Amy Bennett.
But don’t be fooled – this isn’t your average paint-by-numbers biopic. Vagabond Skies is gritty, gorgeous, and gut-wrenching – more Peaky Blinders meets Les Mis with a dash of Moulin Rouge sparkle. It delves into Vincent’s final years, layering heartbreak, resilience, longing, and genius into a vivid musical tapestry. There’s beauty. There’s madness. There’s absolutely no shortage of drama.
Director Dormady says this original British musical is ready for lift-off – and if Edinburgh takes it to heart, it might just become the next big thing.
So grab your tickets and come prepared to feel all the things. Trust me – this one stays with you. Just like Vincent’s brushstrokes. Or an emotional hangover in the Pleasance Courtyard.

Still misty-eyed. Still humming the final number.
