What do you get when an actress ditches the usual headshot hustle and instead trains as a schoolteacher to make it big in Hollywood? You get How to Become a Movie Star? – the gloriously unorthodox, laugh-out-loud new one-woman show from writer, performer and all-round whirlwind Sarah Maria Lafferty.
This brand-new piece of writing from Felix Culpa Theatre Company follows the chaotic, hopeful, and utterly bonkers journey of one woman who finds a dusty old out-of-print celebrity biography and decides to use it as her roadmap to fame. What follows? A hopscotch adventure from a crumbling London hostel to a merciless New York drama school – with pub shifts, teacher training, and a whole lot of self-discovery along the way.
It’s based on the real-life diary entries Sarah’s kept since she was cast as a princess in her school play (and no, she hasn’t stopped performing since). For this show, she spent months trawling through the best, worst and most ridiculous moments of her acting career – selecting the juiciest bits to turn into this joyful, sharply-observed comedy.
This is Sarah’s third time at the Edinburgh Fringe, and she’s no stranger to glowing reviews
Expect heart, hilarity, and a few too many questionable career choices – all performed with magnetic charm and impeccable comedic timing.

Is there a chance it will be performed in Dublin in early September? I am anxios to see this play by Sarah Lafferty,

Hi Maureen, thanks for asking. I plan to bring the show to Dublin after Edinburgh Fringe, but unfortunately I haven’t scheduled any dates yet. Early September would probably be a stretch for me but let’s see how it goes! 🙂
