Shahid Iqbal Khan’s Olivier Award-nominated play, *10 Nights*, embarks on a UK tour and makes its way to Birmingham from Thursday 6 February to Saturday 8 February! Kicking off at Riverside Studios Hammersmith in January, this heartfelt and humorous one-man show delves into themes of faith, community, and self-discovery.
Join Yasser on his captivating journey as he embarks on itikaf—spending the last ten nights of Ramadan in quiet reflection at a mosque. Along the way, he faces unexpected challenges while navigating communal spaces, quirky fellow worshippers, and irresistible cravings for chunky chips. This touching story beautifully blends humour with poignancy as it portrays a young man’s quest to reconcile his faith with personal struggles and aspirations. At its core lies a coming-of-age tale about fractured friendships within a community striving for dignity, hope, and unity.
The talented Birmingham-based stage and screen actor Adeel Ali will bring Yasser to life. Known for his diverse roles ranging from Shakespearean classics to contemporary works like Atiha Sen Gupta’s *What Fatima Did*, Adeel is set to dazzle audiences once again. His screen credits include an upcoming recurring role in *The Family Man* series alongside appearances in feature films such as *Jawani Jaaneman*.
Adeel Ali expressed his excitement: “I am thrilled to be cast in *10 Nights*, a phenomenal play that allows me to portray different characters reflecting society while understanding religion—and celebrating community togetherness.”
Writer Shahid Iqbal Khan shared: “2024 began beautifully with Phizzical Productions’ stunning rendition of *10 Nights*. I’m eagerly anticipating their remount come 2025—it has become tradition during Ramadan! This time around we’ll venture further north reaching places like Huddersfield & Greater Manchester—I can’t wait!”
Director Sâmir Bhamra added: “*10 Nights* is more than just theatre; it’s precisely the kind of British Asian story we need now—humanly relatable yet unapologetically real—that truly reflects our diverse society.” He praised how Shahid’s play dismantles stereotypes about Muslim men using warmth grace humour whilst applauding venue partners welcoming often-ignored communities.
