Hot Mess: The Musical – A Cosmic Love Affair with Killer Vocals and Explosive Chemistry!
One of Theatre Village’s top ten picks of the Fringe, Hot Mess: A New Musical is anything but lukewarm. This dazzling, pop-fuelled extravaganza tells the tale of Earth and Humanity – star-crossed lovers with more baggage than Heathrow Terminal 5.
After a billion years of being ghosted by meteors, pluto-ed by planets, and burned by solar flares, Earth has finally found the one… Humanity. It starts with a bang and a spark-filled romance. Wheat is harvested. Tech booms. Civilization thrives. It’s giving caveman-meets-cyberpunk. But what begins as an epic planetary passion soon spirals into a full-blown climate of heartbreak. Let’s just say: it’s not you, it’s emissions.
Before the show even began, the producer advised due to a technical mishap the lighting would be muted He let the audience know with charm and calm and got a huge applause. Thankfully, the sound was crystal clear and the performers didn’t miss a single beat.
Starring Danielle Steers (SIX) and Tobias Turley (MAMMA MIA!). Earth is soulful, steady, and sentimental. Humanity is a lovable whirlwind of ambition and chaos. Together? A galaxy-sized mess – but one you can’t take your eyes (or ears) off.
The vocals? Out. Of. This. World.
Steers belts like she’s got a volcano in her lungs, and Turley delivers high notes that orbit somewhere near Jupiter. Their chemistry could power a small sun.
Staging was slick and effective, even with the lighting not quite at full wattage. Honestly? It kind of worked. The stripped-back look let the emotional tidal waves shine through even more. No distractions – just raw, universal storytelling.
This show is heading to London in October – it deserves to tour the solar system. And then some.
If you’re a musical theatre fan, this one’s an absolute must. Grab a ticket before they sell out faster than you can say “climate collapse.”
Five blazing stars from us. Planet Earth-approved. 🌍
