Now then, my lovelies — if you thought Christmas was all mulled wine and Mariah Carey on repeat, let me slip this little gem into your satchel: A Fairytale for Christmas is back, and it’s bigger than ever.
After four sell-out tours, this Irish Christmas concert is about to sprinkle its shamrock-tinted stardust across the UK, Ireland, and beyond — with a monumental stop at London’s Dominion Theatre no less (you know, the big one on Tottenham Court Road that makes you feel a bit posh just walking past).
From the team behind Seven Drunken Nights – The Story of The Dubliners (yes, the ones who’ve had audiences raising pints and voices for over a decade), this festive juggernaut promises the merriment of Christmas stirred up with a hearty splash of St Patrick’s Day. Think Irish dance, Celtic hits, and carols galore — a craic-ker of a combo.
Picture it: talented singers, musicians and dancers belting out I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day and O Holy Night, before stomping straight into The Irish Rover and Dirty Old Town. It’s like a musical snow globe shaken up with a fiddle, a bodhrán and a splash of Baileys.
And here’s the scale of it — three full casts will be touring at the same time. Yes, THREE. From Dublin to Scandinavia, families will be making this show part of their Christmas traditions all over again. Last year, over 200,000 tickets were snapped up across 133 shows in five countries — not bad for something that started out as a festive idea and now feels like a winter institution.
The man behind it all, writer and director Ged Graham, puts it best: “What would happen if St Patrick’s Day collided with the best Christmas party you ever had? A Fairytale for Christmas of course.”
So polish your dancing shoes, grab your mistletoe, and maybe warm up your singing voice — because this isn’t just a concert. It’s the ultimate Irish-inspired Christmas celebration, and I’ll happily pop my Theatre Village stamp of festive approval on it.
