I attended this show at Edinburgh Fringe and was eagerly awaiting it to start as I had heard good things. A satire inspired by Glasgow’s Wonka rip-off sensation aka the Fyre Fest of Fudge

I was blown away by the production values in this show, the acting and singing by all performers was top notch. The team’s creativity for the show was simply out of this world.

The clever lyrics and witty dialogue had me in stitches throughout, perfectly capturing the absurdity of the original event. I was particularly impressed by the ingenious set design, which managed to create a whimsical, candy-filled world on a Fringe budget.

The show’s pacing was spot-on, never allowing a dull moment to creep in. The ensemble cast’s energy was infectious, and their comedic timing was impeccable. I found myself tapping my feet to the catchy tunes and grinning from ear to ear at the cheeky references to both Willy Wonka and the infamous Glasgow debacle. The show’s ability to balance satire with genuine heart was truly remarkable. While it mercilessly poked fun at the ill-fated Glasgow event, it also managed to capture the childlike wonder and excitement that such an attraction promises.

The musical numbers were absolute showstoppers, with catchy melodies and lyrics that had the entire audience in stitches. From the opening number that set the scene for the chaotic adventure to come, to the grand finale that brought the house down, each song was a masterclass in musical comedy. Overall, “Willy’s Candy Spectacular: A Musical Parody” is a must-see at the Fringe. I did find it strange some of the characters were American and the Police were American cops, but then I reminded myself its a parody, its not to be a true representation of facts.

Kirsty Patterson ( the original oompa lumpa) was comic in her wit and acting. I hope good things happen for Kirsty from this show.

The only bit in the show that didn’t quite work for me was the AI generated scene, it felt a bit out of place in the show.

It’s a delightful romp that combines sharp wit, musical talent, and a dash of nostalgia to create a truly unforgettable experience. I left the theatre with my sides aching from laughter and a newfound appreciation for the art of parody. This show is a sweet treat that proves sometimes the best comedy comes from real-life disasters!

Show Rating: It’s 5 Star Gobstopper worthy!
