After much reflection, laughter, and theatrical delight, I’m thrilled to share that two shows have moved forward as semi‑finalists for Theatre Village’s Satchel Of Star Awards 2025—each for its own mesmerising reasons:
Disco 2000 – A Vivid Celebration of Friendship & Nostalgia
Hedge Theatre’s Disco 2000 dances through the spectrum of memory, friendship, and the ache of reconnection, blending childhood innocence with adult retrospection in seamless harmony. From its clever “pre‑stage” opening to the pulsating Y2K soundtrack and sharply crafted performances, this show is both emotionally layered and joyfully infectious. Its vibrant staging and authentic chemistry between characters made a lasting impression—this is a production brimming with heart, promise, and the makings of a compelling tour‑ready piece.

Wenches! – Sharp Wit, Historical Absurdity, and Dark Charm

Set in 1423 Berlin, Wenches! delivers a wickedly smart piece of dark comedy anchored in themes of fear, hypocrisy, and moral choice. The three‑strong cast delivers finely tuned spontaneity, drawing in audiences with every sly smile and knowing silence. A near‑curtain‑call disaster (a missing HDMI cable!) was turned into Fringe folklore, and the show’s stripped‑back staging only heightened its raw comedic energy. An unforgettable, sharp‑edged piece—both hilarious and haunting.

Why These Two?
Choosing between these two was no easy feat. Disco 2000 captured me with its emotional resonance, kinetic energy, and the bittersweet truth of friendship. Meanwhile, Wenches! enchanted with its clever juxtaposition of history and absurdity, holding a dark mirror up to society with wit and flair. Both were unforgettable—and in very different ways, equally deserving of semi-finalist status.
To All the Other Performers…
A standing ovation for everyone who brought their work to the Fringe this year. Every show shone with unique creativity, courage, and voice—making the decision so deeply difficult. Your artistry, commitment, and the joy you bring to the stage are what makes the Fringe extraordinary. Thank you for lighting it up with your passion.
The final winner will be announced on 1st September!
