It Delivers Ghosts, Giggles and a Whole Lotta Grief
Well darlings, hold onto your ghost-hunting hats – because I’ve got a spooky special in my satchel this week! Word on the whispering wind is that Ghosted! A New Musical is floating its fabulous self into Edinburgh Fringe, and trust me, it’s not your typical ghost story – it’s got grief, gags, and just enough ectoplasm to make things interesting.
So here’s the scoop: our main chap Henry is spiralling after losing his bestie Mia (we’ve all been there, heartbreak and half-empty pints), and what does he do? Joins a paranormal support group to contact her spirit. As you do. Only problem? She’s already made contact… just not quite how he expected.
Enter Lydia – a wannabe exorcist with more passion than paperwork – and the two of them spiral into a supernatural caper to untangle the mess between the living and the dearly departed. Think Beetlejuice if he was sad and sensitive, Next to Normal if it took a detour through a séance, and a pinch of Rocky Horror camp because why the hell not?
Now, behind this hauntingly hilarious gem is the ghost-hunting dream team: Makena Margolin and Hayden Kline, who conjured it up after bonding on Trinity College Dublin’s production of Carrie: The Musical. (Yes, that bloody prom one!) After real-life losses of their own, these two transformed grief into glitter, building a musical sanctuary that hits you right in the feels.
It first lit up the Samuel Beckett Theatre back in February – and let me tell you, it raised the roof and maybe a few spirits. Now it’s here at the Fringe with Helianthus Productions, the theatre company they co-founded to keep the drama grounded, daring, and drenched in divine melodies.
If you’re into ghost stories with guts, songs with soul, and theatre that makes you laugh and cry at the same time – Ghosted! is your one-way ticket to The Otherside. Just promise me you’ll come back with gossip.
Spearheaded by an Irish, American, and international creative team, Ghosted! blends
the rawness of grief with comedy, tennis rackets, and more than a whisper of
Edgar Allan Poe.
